Took a bit to find the speed and duplex, but got it and it's working better! i tried to resolve the issue, as I am an IT professional, but couldn't figure it out after days of fail.
I can't confirm this had anything to do with it or not, but thought I'd share in case it did. After a little googleing, i have found out that a large number of people with 8.1 are having some sort of wireless networking problem. One moment you're absolutely dominating in your online game while downloading some movies (legally, of course), and the next moment you can barely load a simple web page. I have just reinstalled 8.1, having had to do a restore after 6 mo or so of use (abuse?).
